
MINUTES OF MEETING
The meeting was opened at 5:45 PM by Vice-President Connie Estes. Those attending: Connie Estes, Gianna Cagliano, Earl Holst, Dawn Marie Johnson, Pat Moomey, Paddy Ruzella, Janet Sklar and Kay Abbott.
OLD BUSINESS:
New meeting place: A new location has been determined by the efforts of the appointed committee of Dawn Marie Johnson, Pat Moomey and Connie Estes. They signed a contract with the new County Schools Education Center at 5100 Adolfo Rd., Camarillo for the months of Sept. through December, 2007. A flyer re the new location will be sent prior to the Sept. meeting.
The costs are, rent $144.00 @ month, plus $50.00 extra for beverage access which includes coffee, tea, soda, water & ice that the County Schools will provide. These may not be brought in by groups. Discussion followed and the committee explained that in January, 2008, the rent will be $188.00 + $50.00. It was suggested that a notice be displayed (explaining the County Office policy) that $1.00 from beverage users would help defray the added expense. Dawn Marie offered to write a letter to the Schools office requesting a deduction in rent for our educational status.
Library storage. The new facility does not allow for storage, therefore we need to a) find someone who will store the books for each meeting or b) reduce the number of books by having a sale of the excess books (fundraiser?) Librarian Cindy Garside generously offered to store the books at her home for the summer.
Speakers: September, Paula Smart; October, Tom Carruth or an associate from Weeks Roses. Ingrid will contact Ron Oto (floral arranging) for November.
NEW BUSINESS:
Nominating Committee chair: Kay Abbott volunteered; she needs a committee.
Membership Chair, Pat Moomey reported that new name tags are completed for members. She spoke of the lag in membership renewals. Treasurer, Earl Holst stated that dues renewals are down from 125 to 81 current. Ideas to encourage membership renewals were discussed and the following suggestions were made.
Summer Social: Dawn Marie invited the Society to her home Sat. Aug 25, 4 – 7 PM for a salad/dessert potluck. An invitation and map will be mailed to the membership one month prior to the event.
Fundraisers: Gianna volunteered to head the committee. Discussion followed.
Connie asked that all chairpersons write a job description.
