Minutes of VCRS Board of Directors Meeting - May 25, 2006

A meeting of the Board of Directors was held at the Souplantation in Camarillo on May 25, 2006. All Board members were present: Linda-Banner-Bacin, President; Lynette Buchanan-Roth, Vice President; Earl Holst, Treasurer; Paddy Ruzella, Secretary; Jim Delahanty, Immediate Past President: Members at Large – Pat Moomey, Programs; Janet Sklar, Publicity; Ken Kerr; Ex-Officio Member, Cindy Mastro, Raffles; as well as member Arden Holst. Board President Linda Banner-Bacin called the meeting to order at 5:50 p.m.

Rose Garden Tour, June 3, 2006: Four or five gardens are available for viewing. Final arrangements, maps and directions will be made this week and ready for those participating at the K-Mart, Victoria Avenue, meeting place at 9:30 a.m.

Radio Talk Show: A request has been made for someone to talk about roses during the early morning AM radio station (KKKK) during the first or second week of June. Linda Banner-Bacin will ask Dawn-Marie Johnson to handle this.

Newsletter Editor: Jim Delahanty reported that Brian Keele may be prepared to undertake this position if someone could send him the Society News. Pat Moomey agreed to collect and provide this for Brian. Jim will so inform Brian. Sue Munday is not interested in editing the newsletter again. Jim also agreed to send an e-mail list of all members plus the district web site address to Board Members.

Computer Data Base for VC Roses: Lynette Buchanan-Roth said she is forming a committee to work up a form to be placed on the web site where members can report on roses that do well in their specific mini climates. It was suggested that input also be gathered from Penni Tyler, VCRS web site manager, and the Master Gardener web site be viewed for additional ideas.

Summer Social, August 12, 2006: A flyer will be produced to be sent to members in early August about this event and its location. Members to bring salads and desserts to share and VCRS will provide plastic ware, cups and drinks. Meeting scheduled at the home of Linda Banner-Bacin to produce flyer on July 29, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Janet Sklar and Paddy Ruzella to be present. Anyone else is welcome! Pat Moomey will be contacted for details to her home etc. in advance of the meeting by Linda Banner-Bacin.

Rose Auction Assignments: Dawn-Marie Johnson has agreed to coordinate the logistics for the Auction in January. Discussion indicated there are enough suitable vehicles amongst Board members to provide transportation from Jim Delahanty’s home to local storage places for the roses. The auction has been limited to 200 roses and will be held at the Cowan Center on January 20, 2007. The room is booked from 9 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

Library Cart: Janet Sklar had obtained two catalogs with library carts available. Linda Banner-Bacin took these to review possibilities.

The next Board meeting will be held at the Cowan Center on June 22nd immediately prior to the regular meeting. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m
