The meeting was called to order by President Linda Banner-Bacin in the James Cowan Center in Camarillo at 5.50 p.m. Those present were Linda Banner-Bacin, President; Lynette Buchanan-Roth, Vice President; Paddy Ruzella, Secretary; Pat Moomey, Program Chair; and Ken Kerr, Director at Large.
Discussion concerning the January 2007 auction was limited as Auction Chair, Jim Delahanty was not present. It was thought, however, that there were some 200 roses available and that the mini roses would be sold directly rather than auctioned off. It was also felt that the more common roses should not be pulled from the event unless there was simply no space available.
There was discussion about upcoming programs. Pat Moomey has several programs in place or close to being set up and as the Board in general will be undertaking the job of Program Chairman next year some ideas were debated. Pat will follow up with Samantha Moomey and a suggestion of a talk by Irene of Sequoia Nursery; with Bob Martin on hybridizing; and with possible programs on tools for gardening ergonomics, plus composting and mulching. A suggestion was made that we could have a live wreath class as a fund raiser for the Society.
The suggested rose list of which roses grow best in which areas will be handled by e-mail by Jim Delahanty.
The slate of officers and directors to be offered at the general meeting following this Board meeting is: Linda Banner-Bacin, President; Lynette Buchanan-Roth, Vice President; Earl Horst, Treasurer; Kay Abbott, Secretary; Cindy Mastro, Ken Kerr, Janet Sklar, Pat Moomey and Paddy Ruzella, Directors at Large.
This year’s holiday party and installation of officers will take place on December 14th at the Cowan Center, beginning at 6:30 p.m. It was suggested members with last names starting A-M bring desserts and N-Z bring salads. There will be a gift exchange with gifts to range in the $10 area. There will also be a Bronze Medal award ceremony.
Since the November/December issue of The Ventura Rose newsletter deals thoroughly with pruning there will be no program on pruning this year beyond the demonstration at the Stagecoach Inn in January.
Regarding the newsletter, an overall editor is still required. Volunteers willing to do the layout and the distribution are on standby. Present editor will be retiring with the January issue.
It is planned that Board meetings be held next year in February, April and June.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Paddy Ruzella
