Ventura County Rose Society
Board Meeting
October 5, 2004
Greenhouse Cafe, Thousand Oak

ATTENDING: President Dawn-Marie Johnson, Vice-President Ingrid Wapelhorst, Treasurer Earl Holst, Members-at-Large Jim Delahanty, Jane Delahanty, Arden Holst, Joanne Smith, and Pat Moomey. Absent: Cindy Mastro

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

  1. It was voted to dispense with the reading of the Minutes of the September meeting.
  2. There was general discussion about the Sequoia Nursery Bus tour. Earl Holst reported that the tour brought in $760, including 23 VCRS members and 10 non-members. Earl will prepare a check to the Superintendent of Schools to cover all or a portion of the 2005 meeting room expenses.
  3. Ingrid Wapelhorst will be meeting with the members of the Nominations Committee within the next week to work on the slate of officers for 2005.
  4. Newsletter editor. Ideas were discussed about a variety of ways to split up the job so that it would be more manageable. The search for a newsletter “committee” continues.
  5. The October meeting will include Clair Martin as guest speaker, the Nominations Committee announcement of the slate for the VCRS 2005 Board, and the announcement of the VCRS Bronze Medal recipient. The November meeting will include our guest speaker David Bassani (revised), a vote for the 2005 VCRS officers. The presentation of the Bronze Medal award will be at the November or December meeting (no rose show, no raffle). The December meeting will be our annual Holiday Party, including installation of officers, presentation of Attaboy and Attagirl awards, and gift exchange. We will look into having the tool-sharpening person come back again if we receive enough names on the October/November sign up sheet as required by Pro Tools.
  6. Last Quarter of 2004 Review: Jim Delahanty reviewed the current roses he has ready for the Auction and plans for acquiring and storing other roses in preparation for the January 2005 Auction. The Auction will be held on the 4th Saturday of January instead of our usual Thursday evening meeting time.
  7. Programs have been set up for the VCRS meetings through May of 2005. Dawn-Marie Johnson will review the Good to Grow Brochure for possible updates in preparation for upcoming pruning demonstrations and other events.
  8. Ojai Valley Garden Club needs a program speaker for the November 13th meeting on Roses with bio of speaker to them by 10/7.
  9. A get-well card will be sent to the Kaelkes
  10. Dawn-Marie Johnson presented a proposed new VCRS stationery, which was accepted by all.

Upon a motion made and seconded, it was voted to adjourn at 7:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Ingrid Wapelhorst (for Cindy Mastro)
