Board Meeting
September 7, 2004

ATTENDING: President Dawn-Marie Johnson, Vice-President Ingrid Wapelhorst, Members-at-Large Jim Delahanty, Joanne Smith. Also
attending: Pat Moomey.
Absent: Earl Holst, Arden Holst, Cindy Mastro, Brian Keele., Jane Delahanty
The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m.
- Review of the 9/25/04 Sequoia bus tour plans
- The number of participants and non-participants was discussed, with VCRS members paying $20 and non-VCRS
members/new members paying $30, with a total of 31 paid participants to date. The cost of the bus is $1110, leaving a $470
balance for the VCRS to pick up (including the $20 paid by the member who canceled). Carolyn at Sequoia will need a final count
for insurance purposes.
- The schedule of pickups in Ventura and Camarillo was finalized, as were the activities and refreshments on the way to,
during, and return home from the nursery.
- A monthly reminder will be send out via email and phone calls will be made to those signed up to confirm the meeting
times and places with the attendees.
- REVIEW 2004
- New Board Member. Upon a motion made by Dawn-Marie Johnson and seconded by Jim Delahanty,
the Board (including a proxy from Jane Delahanty given to Jim Delahanty) unanimously approved the
addition of Pat Moomey as a member of the Board to replace Brian Keele who moved from the area this
summer.
- Open Chair Positions.
- Nominations Committee. Ingrid Wapelhorst will chair; Dawn-Marie Johnson
and Pat Moomey will be Committee members.
- Newsletter Editor. Some names were suggested and ideas about the requirements of the position were discussed. We will continue to
pursue a person or persons for this important undertaking.
- Programs Chair 2005. January Annual VCRS Auction; February Kay and Bert Grant; March Baldo Villegas. We need to find a
volunteer to set up the remaining meeting nights through 2005.
- Phone Call Chairperson. Joanne Smith has volunteered to take over this position.
- Upcoming 2004 Programs.
October 28th Clair Martin
November 18th Jim Delahanty has been assured that the Kaelkes will be able to do their presentation despite
health issues.
- Holiday Party
December 16, 2004 was decided on as the date. Dawn-Marie will confirm that the Cowan Center room is
reserved for that night and will discuss refreshments with Cindy Mastro.
- Bronze Medal award
Names were brought up and discussed; Board members will be polled via email when Earl and Arden
return from vacation. The nominee must be submitted to the ARS by the beginning of October.
- Attaboy and Attagirl Awards
Three members will be given this award, which includes a years membership in the ARS.
Names were brought forward and discussed but more discussion is necessary when all of the Board members
are available to vote on possible nominees.
- REVIEW 2005
- Programs Chair for 2005. See above.
- Reserve Ventura Room at Cowan Center for 2005 meeting dates. Dawn-Marie to check the dates of our future
meetings and reserve the room.
- OTHER
- Thank you to be sent to Kitty Belendez by Dawn-Marie on behalf of the VCRS for introducing the fragrant
category into judging .
- Get-well card for our November speaker may not be necessary at this date.
- October 2, 2004, Moorpark Street Fair, $50 fee for the booth. If we have money in the budget, we may
consider participating as a CR Outreach program.
Upon a motion made by Dawn-Marie and seconded by Jim Delahanty, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
