1. The ‘Garden in May’ essay/letter is up on the website.

2. For those interested in Historic Cemeteries and Old Roses, Anita Clevenger, Maintenance Manager of the Sacramento City Cemetery Rose Garden, will be speaking at the Louise Lowry Davis Center, 1232 De La Vina St, in Santa Barbara, CA, 93101, on Thursday, the 8th of May. The program is sponsored by the Santa Barbara Rose Society, and begins at 7:30 p.m.; socializing begins at 6:30. For more information contact Jeri Jennings at heritageroses@gmail.com

3. The VCRS Newsletter is expected to be published by the 15th of this month. Included will be articles on ‘How to find a rose….’, ‘How to Dry roses,’ ‘Organic Rose Gardening—the basics,’ and the report of the Consulting Rosarian Chair.

4. The June newsletter issue will carry a report on the trophy winning members of the VCRS at the rose shows of the spring season. So far, Janet Sklar, Ingrid Wapelhorst, Jim Delahanty, Bud Jones, and Sue Diller have all won trophies at local rose shows with more to come.

5. The VCRS speaker at our May meeting on the Thursday, the 22nd at 7:30 p.m. will be Bill De Vor, fourth generation plantsman, and Manager of the Nor-East Miniature Division of Greenheart Farms. His innovative production methods have increased rose output by three times as much as previous methods and reduced labor costs by nearly 90%. He is also a true believer in the present and future of miniature roses.
